An insurance scheme that pays out to jockeys in the event of their career coming to an end prematurely has been renewed, with a new two-year sponsorship deal between the Professional Jockeys Association and infrastructure and support services business, Stobart Group.
The deal will see Stobart continue with exclusive use of an advertising branding site for the jockeys – on their ‘posteriors’ – which has become a familiar sight on all Britain’s racecourses during the last four years.
The PJA’s Joint President AP McCoy said: “Jockeys have one of the most dangerous jobs in sport, so insurance is important for all of us. We are hugely grateful to Stobart Group for their considerable assistance in providing us with a career-ending insurance scheme through their ongoing sponsorship of the PJA.”
Flat jockey Steve Drowne, also PJA Joint President, added: “The extension of our partnership with Stobart Group, which allows the continued provision of the Career Ending Insurance scheme, is fantastic news. A big thank you to Stobart Group and their Chief Executive, Andrew Tinkler, who is such a good supporter of the PJA.”
Andrew Tinkler, Stobart Group’s Chief Executive Officer said: “It’s great that we can help support the PJA in a way that continues to make a difference to the jockeys themselves. I understand the risks involved in business and we have processes in place to minimise those. I’m pleased that our support of the PJA and the association’s members is being put to such good use.”
