Premier League football club Stoke City has agreed a new naming rights deal for its Britannia Stadium with shirt sponsor Bet365.

Under the six-year deal, the stadium will be renamed as the Bet365 Stadium from the 2016/17 season.

The betting firm has also extended its shirt sponsorship with the club for a further three years.

Stoke City also announced plans to redevelop the stadium, adding an additional 1,800 seats in the south east corner, raising the capacity to over 30,000, which will be completed before the start of the new season in August.

“The Premier League is constantly evolving,” said Tony Scholes, Stoke City chief executive. “To ensure that Stoke City remain as competitive as possible, it’s important we explore as many ways as possible of generating revenue.

“We are delighted to reach an agreement with Bet365 over the stadium naming rights, and we also felt the time was right to develop the corner of the ground and increase in seat capacity.”

John Coates, vice chairman at Stoke City and joint chief executive of Bet365, added: “There’s no doubt Bet365 has benefitted enormously from the global exposure our shirt sponsorship agreement with the club has given us. This felt like a natural fit, especially as Stoke-on-Trent is home to Bet365.”

Stoke City and Bet365 are both owned by local businessmen Peter Coates and his family.
