Former England cricket captain Andrew Strauss has decided against a bid to become the new managing director of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
The role became available in August after Hugh Morris resigned to join county cricket team Glamorgan as chief executive.
Strauss, who retired from all forms of cricket last year and has since taken up commentary with Sky Sports, was suggested as Morris’ natural successor and has admitted contemplating submitting an application for the job.
Candidates are required to have international playing experience and it is reported that the ECB is keen to appoint an Englishman to the role, which received over 200 applicants.
According to media reports, the 36-year-old informed the sport’s governing body of his decision at the weekend ahead of its shortlist from 12 potential candidates to six, with interviews beginning next month.
