The Bradford Bulls have been ‘inundated’ with pledges of cash support after revealing they need £1 million to stay in business.
Despite selling their stadium to the RFL earlier in the year in a move designed to safeguard the team’s long-term future, the Bulls have revealed short-term problems that need £500,000 of that £1 million to be raised within the next ten days.
Having urged fans to pledge £100 each, the club has received numerous offers of support – including from ex-players Jamie Peacock and Stuart Fielden and the Lord Mayor of the City of London.
Peacock, the England captain and Leeds Rhinos star, moved quickly to donate £800 to the cause, while David Wootton, the Bradford-born Lord Mayor of the City of London, also backed the campaign.
One fan moved quickly to pledge £5,000. Earlier, chairman Peter Hood had told the Bradford Telegraph & Argus: ‘If we haven’t got cash then we can’t stay alive and if we can’t stay alive then we can’t fulfil our fixtures. It’s that serious.’
