Premier League club Sunderland has confirmed that its chief executive Peter Walker has ended his 10 year tenure running the club.

Walker has issued his resignation after successfully leading Sunderland back to the Premier League and ensuring they retained their place in the English top-flight.

Walker joined the Sunderland board as group financial director in 2001 and became chief executive in 2004.

Along with chairman Niall Quinn, he oversaw the appointment of Roy Keane as manager and the arrival of a host of players in the summer transfer market aimed at ensuring the club’s top-flight status.
