Title sponsor First Utility has launched a new format for the First Utility Super League Player of the Month competition, who will now leave it to fans to vote for the league’s most outstanding players.

Working in conjunction with League Weekly, a shortlist of five players will be revealed by writers at the end of each month. Fans will then have the opportunity to vote for the player they believe deserves the award via the competition’s Facebook page.

The two players with the most votes will then be considered by a judging panel consisting of representatives from First Utility & League Weekly, where an overall winner will be revealed.

Each fan who votes will go into a prize draw with one supporter set to present the Player of the Month trophy to the winning player.

Ed Kamm, chief customer officer at First Utility, added: “It’s the fans that make the First Utility Super League what it is and we want to tap into their knowledge and passion to choose the outstanding performers each month.

“The blend of expert views and fan opinion will ensure we crown a deserving winner every month, which will be presented by one lucky fan.”

League Weekly editor Rebecca Smith commented: “As the No.1 read in rugby league, we’re delighted to team up with First Utility to give the fans a voice in deciding the Super League Player of the Month Award.

“I’m sure that knowing that the award has been directly influenced by the most important people in the sport, the supporters, will make it all the more special to the recipients.”
