The Football League has approved a takeover of Swindon Town by a local consortium. The decision follows a period of financial uncertainty for the club that recently sent a letter to every club in the Football League stating that all players were for sale.

Former owner Andrew Black put the club, which has debts of around £9m, up for sale having considered the option of entering administration. Jed McCrory, owner of Banbury United has bought the club along with Steve Murrall, Callum Rice and Gary Hooper.

The deal was originally agreed on 30th January however it could not be confirmed until the details were ratified. The announcement comes days after Paolo Di Canio quit as manager of the club.
