TalkSPORT has secured the rights to deliver 150 hours of coverage of the British and Irish Lions, winning full commentary rights to this summer’s Tour.
Alongside match coverage, the talkSPORT network will provide previews, post-match analysis, and phone-ins as well as aiming to ‘bring all the colour from South Africa’ to fans listening in the UK.
The talkSPORT network will broadcast bespoke previews ahead of all Tests, a daily Lions Diary programme throughout the tour and podcast programming of the Tour through the talkSPORT app and audio streaming sites, as well as bespoke YouTube content.
Full commentary of warm-up tests will also be included in the package.
“The Lions is a world-class, elite event and has been the talk of rugby fans all winter,” said Lee Clayton, Head of talkSPORT.
“We have a bumper summer of sport across the talkSPORT network with every game from the Euros and Jose Mourinho joining the station; full commentary of The Open and now The Lions, where talkSPORT will be on the ground to bring all the insight, action and reaction from South Africa for our engaged and informed listeners.”
Lions Commercial Director, Tom Halsey, added: “talkSPORT is one of the best in the business when it comes to broadcasting live sport, so we’re delighted to have them onboard for a third consecutive tour. Lions supporters are going to love the coverage from their stellar line-up.”
The radio network’s commentary team will include former Ireland winger Tommy Bowe, former Springbok Bryan Habana, England World Cup winner Ben Kay and Lions legend Sir Ian McGeechan. The coverage will be presented by Craig Doyle, Hannah Wilkes, and Tim Cocker with Andrew McKenna as commentator.
