The NFL has announced that the third consecutive regular season game to be held at London’s Wembley Stadium will be between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New England Patriots in October 2009.

The Buccaneers will host the Patriots in a regular season NFL game in London on Sunday 25th October next year with both clubs strong contenders to reach the play-offs this season.

The contest will mark the third consecutive year of a competitive game at Wembley. On 26th October of this year, the New Orleans Saints beat the San Diego Chargers 37-32 in front of an 83,226 crowd, while the New York Giants overcame the Miami Dolphins 13-10 in October 2007 on their way to winning Super Bowl XLII.

The NFL has committed to playing at least one game in the UK for each of the next two seasons.

The game between the Buccaneers and Patriots will take place in Week 7 of the 2009 season and will be shown live in the US on CBS, kicking off at 5pm UK time.

The TV rights in the UK have yet to be confirmed although this year’s game was jointly broadcast by the BBC and Sky Sports.
