Tangerine PR has been appointed to manage the UK press office for the Reebok Spartan Race.

The team will work with the obstacle race’s digital marketing agency to raise awareness and drive footfall to each of the six races taking place in 2016 through media relations, partnership activation, event media management and celebrity engagement.

The Reebok Spartan Race first entered the UK in 2010, with over 20,000 competitors completing the course in 2015.

Speaking about the appointment, Peter Phillips, Spartan UK, said: “The Reebok Spartan Race has rapidly grown in popularity in the UK, so we recognised the need to bring a strategic communications partner on board to help us maximise our reach and engagement with existing and potential Spartans.

“Tangerine’s experience within the sports industry as well as its strategic approach to the brief makes them the perfect partner for us. We were especially impressed with the team’s creativity, strong contacts within this sector and clear passion for our brand.”

Consumer MD, Mary Harding, said: “Tangerine has been consistently growing its sports portfolio of clients over the past few years with brands including Reebok, SiS, Sport Relief and campaigns such as I Will If You Will, and Spartan UK is a fantastic addition to our roster.

“With the ongoing rise in popularity of obstacle course racing, the 2016 season is a great time for us to get started. The team has kicked off the campaign by launching the Reebok Spartan 2016 race calendar and we look forward to seeing the partnership develop over the coming months.”
