Former Independent on Sunday editor John Mullin has joined The Telegraph as the new head of sports news, following the departure of Henry Winter to The Times.
The Independent’s football correspondent, Sam Wallace, has also joined the sports desk at Telegraph Media Group as chief football writer.
The long serving Henry Winter resigned earlier this year after 20 years at the newspaper, and is expected to start at the Times in November.
Meanwhile, Jason Burt, who has covered the Premier League and the England team for the past decade, has been promoted to chief football correspondent while former QPR manager Harry Redknapp has been signed to write a regular football column.
On Saturday, to coincide with the Premier League football season, the newspaper launched its new look sports desk as “Team Telegraph” in a print and digital campaign.
