Italian sports apparel brand ellesse has been unveiled as the exclusive clothing partner of Tennis Scotland.

Under the agreement, ellesse will provide performance sportswear to players, coaches and staff at Tennis Scotland, as well as clothing to development officers and tournament officials.

The deal marks the national governing body’s second major commercial partnership in the space of a few weeks, following the recent multi-year agreement struck with tennis equipment provider Dunlop, which will support the new GB National Tennis Academy at the University of Stirling.

Scottish ace Cameron Norrie, currently number two in Britain and 51st in the world men’s rankings, is backed by ellesse, as well as women’s singles British number one and world number 38 Johanna Konta and seven-time wheelchair tennis Grand Slam winner Alfie Hewett.

The brand has an illustrious history in the sport, having championed the likes of Boris Becker, Chris Evert and Pat Cash since it was established 60 years ago.

Blane Dodds, Tennis Scotland chief executive, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome ellesse to Tennis Scotland’s family of partners and sponsors.

“ellesse is another world-renowned brand famous for its association with and expertise in tennis.

“They very much share our values and ambitions to be a force for good in tennis and to encourage people of all ages, abilities, backgrounds and ethnicities to enjoy the sport. Everyone at Tennis Scotland is excited to work with ellesse to encourage more people on to the court and perhaps one day add some new Scottish names to that roll call of world-class tennis players they have supported.”

The ellesse brand was founded in Italy 60 years ago by Leonardo Servadio, whose initials, ‘LS’, were used to create its name.
