Following proposals to a schedule change, Indian cricket board chief Lalit Modi has calmed England’s concerns, affirming that the first Test between England and India will not be moved to accommodate the first ever Champions League final.

Although India had proposed delaying the match for a day, as it was set to occur a few hours after the final for the inaugural league takes place in Chennai.

India skipper Mahendra Dhoni is the only player from either side that is involved in both matches, and his Champions League team, Chennai Super Kings, had pressed for a schedule adjustment so that he would be able to play, should they reach the final.

Modi, however, has officially ruled this option out, after discussions with both Giles Clarke, chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board, and David Collier, the chief executive, who were against the proposal. Additionally, the uncertainty of whether Chennai will qualify for the final at all played a role in the decision.

If the Test had been moved, the match would have been pushed even later into December, making it difficult for the England players to be back in time for Christmas.
