The All England Lawn Tennis Club and Sony have come to an agreement with the BBC to broadcast the Wimbledon finals in 3D for the first time this summer.
The AELTC and Sony have put together a plan to offer the 3D content globally and have struck a deal with the BBC to act as host broadcaster.
The women’s final, and the men’s semi-finals and final will also be screened in movie theatres around the UK with the games also shown in full High Definition.
The chief executive of The All England Lawn Tennis Club, Ian Ritchie said: ‘Wimbledon is renowned for its heritage and sense of tradition. At the same time we are always looking for ways to improve the presentation of The Championships by successfully blending that tradition with innovation’.
Fujio Nishida, president of Sony Europe added: ‘Watching tennis in High Definition 3D is a stunning experience, bringing the speed of the action and the emotions of the occasion to life’.
The Wimbledon Championship begins 20th June, through to 3rd July.
