The winners of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Jordan 2018 will lift a new trophy at the final in Amman on 20th April.

Made by BT Sport Industry Awards trophy silversmiths, Thomas Lyte of London, the new trophy is 52.5cm high and crafted from 5.5kg of Hallmarked Sterling Silver bullion.

The AFC Women’s Asian Cup trophy took 140 hours to create, passing through the hands of eight different craftsmen.

The new 2018 modern design has discrete pointers to the competition’s long history. The handles, which have been cast from six solid silver bars, point to the six participants that played in the first tournament in 1975. At the base of the trophy eight modern women footballers decorate the plinth.

AFC president Shaikh Salman said: “The new AFC Women’s Asian Cup trophy is a striking design that reflects the value of the competition as the Continent’s top women’s football tournament. I look forward to seeing the winning team lift the coveted piece of silverware at the final on April 20 in Amman, Jordan.

“The AFC has trusted Thomas Lyte for all of our trophy designs since 1997 and I am happy to see this relationship flourish with this magnificent trophy which is fitting of such a prestigious competition.”

Kevin Baker, CEO and founder of Thomas Lyte, said: “We were thrilled to create a new trophy for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup. At such an important time for the women’s game you can see the significance of this trophy way beyond sport, so it was very special for us, particularly as the competition will be played for the first time in West Asia.

“The design of the new AFC Women’s Asian Cup is based on traditional trophy designs but also encompasses modern craft and design features. The handles are particularly striking and a key feature of the trophy. The trophy reflects a continuity of design through our long-standing relationship with the AFC and the figures around the base of the trophy follow the theme of AFC trophies and awards over the past 20 years.”
