The ticket prices for the Rugby World Cup 2011 in New Zealand have been set with tournament organisers hoping to lure as many local rugby supporters as possible in the process as a result of the cost effective pricing structures.

Tickets for group matches will start from just NZ$15 for children and NZ$30 for adults, but the final tickets are considerably higher – costing between NZ$390 and NZ$1250.

According to New Zealand’s tournament boss Martin Snedden, the prices for major games were ‘expensive by New Zealand standards’, but he added: ‘We believe the ticketing policy will result in each match being played in full venues, showcasing New Zealand’s love of rugby.

‘We’ve been up-front that ticket prices for RWC 2007 in France would give fans a guide for 2011. Although tickets for knockouts and major pool matches are expensive by New Zealand standards, we have been able to price two-thirds of matches at, or below, existing Test match prices.

‘Many matches will be played during the day and we’re keen to see as many families as possible enjoy the RWC 2011 experience.’

Tickets for the 2011 RWC will go on general sale in April 2010 and the tournament gets underway on Friday, 9th September; with the final taking place on Sunday, 23rd October. The opening match and final will both be played at Auckland’s Eden Park.

South Africa will be the defending champions in New Zealand, having defeated England 15-6 in the 2007 RWC Final in France. The Springboks, along with Australia, will be aiming for an unprecedented third World Cup title.
