England Rugby 2015, organisers of next year’s Rugby World Cup, has launched an international marketing campaign ahead of next week’s tickets release, which go on general sale from 12th to 29th September.
The campaign, “Too Big To Miss”, includes a launch video directed by The Full Monty director Peter Cattaneo and stars Game of Thrones actor Charles Dance. Watch it at Sport Industry TV.
It also includes appearances from a host of current and retired international rugby players including Joe Launchbury, Dylan Hartley, George North, Will Greenwood, Serge Betsen, Ian McGeechan, Lawrence Dallaglio and Martin Johnson.
Groundsmen, referees, kit men and mascots also appear, as well as Kevin Williams, Master Silversmith of trophy makers Thomas Lyte.
The film launches an integrated marketing and PR campaign, including a mix of regional, national and international print, digital, outdoor, social media advertising, and a city dressing programme in each of the 11 host cities.
Up to one million tickets for the tournament will go on general sale on 12th September, and the application window will be open until 29th September. Fans can apply for up to four tickets for each match, and will be notified of their successful allocation in October.
To mark tickets going on sale, England Rugby 2015 will stage a world record attempt at Twickenham Stadium to create the world’s largest scrum.
The six-week tournament begins in September next year, and will comprise of 48 games in 11 different host cities.
Over a third of the games will be held in London – either at Twickenham, Wembley or the Olympic Stadium – but Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Milton Keynes, Leicester, Gloucester, Exeter, Brighton and Cardiff will also host matches.
England Rugby 2015 is expecting more than two million live spectators, and this campaign kick-starts their extensive marketing process.
