Recent research has revealed that the highest ranked clubs in Europe’s six top football nations earn €615m from merchandising each year.

The 20 English FA Premier League clubs have topped the ranking with €171m, which is equal to merchandising revenue of €8.6 million per club. The Spanish Primera División comes in second with €145m, followed by German Bundesliga at €127m.

The research, released by SPORT+MARKT and PR Marketing’s European Football Merchandising Report, showcases how merchandising is linked to sporting success, the size of the domestic market, the number of domestic and international club fans and professional merchandising structures.

It also revealed the gap between the top clubs and the rest of the leagues, as on average, the 116 clubs make €5.3m from merchandising and the 20 top clubs bring in €21.2m, while the remaining 96 teams each earn around €2m.
