Football League club Tranmere Rovers has been put up for sale on eBay with a price tag of £6m by its American owners Dornoch Capital Advisors – a move which has ‘appalled’ Rovers chairman Peter Johnson.
Purchase includes its 16,500 capacity stadium and a ‘historic brand and fan base in FA football dating back over 100 years’.
Also included is ‘zero indebtedness in a period when English Football is in the process of de-gearing’ and ‘free shipping’.
The club, originally founded in 1884 as Belmont FC, is a League One squad based out of the Prenton area of Birkenhead, near Liverpool.
Chairman Peter Johnson has expressed anger that the American owners put the club up for sale on eBay without permission.
