Publishing giant Trinity Mirror has surprisingly announced it is to sell off horse racing title The Racing Post as part of a restructure that will see it concentrate on its key national and regional publications.
The Racing Post, along with 138 regional titles in London, the South East and the Midlands including its sports division, will allow Trinity Mirror to make cost savings of close to £20m.
It is not been confirmed at this point what price tag Trinity Mirror has placed on The Racing Post which has a circulation of 71,000 and is widely regarded as one of the group’s flagship titles. However, the publisher’s sports division is believed to be valued at £200m in total.
The Racing Post recently saw off the launch of a rival in The Sportsman which lasted just nine months before being placed in administration.
