The England and Wales Cricket Board has received two nominations for its vacant
chairman position following the news that current incumbent David Morgan is to
become ICC president next year.
Giles Clarke, chairman of Somerset County Cricket Club, and Michael Soper,
current deputy chairman of the ECB, have both been put forward to take on the
chairmanship with the decision to be put to a vote of the ECB members.
The ballot – to be conducted by the Electoral Reform Services – is to be
circulated to the Chairmen of the First Class Counties and MCC on 30th July and
will close on 13th August.
When one candidate is identified, that person’s name will be put to the full
membership of ECB for endorsement with the final result due to be announced on
28th August.
David Morgan is due leave his post on 30th September and take up his position
as ICC president in June 2008.
The new ECB Chairman will take office with effect from 1st October, 2007 with
the chairmanship running through to 31st March, 2009.
