Pat McQuaid, the president of the International Cycling Union (UCI), has promised a ‘timely response’ on the Lance Armstrong doping case, and insists the UCI will respect USADA’s decision to strip him of his titles – ‘unless the USADA’s decision and case file give serious reasons to do otherwise.’

After the cyclist announced that he would no longer contest USADA’s charges of doping against him, the American orgsanition stripped him of all titles won since August 1998, including seven editions of the Tour de France.

McQuaid told Reuters that the UCI has no plans to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), as long as USADA provides it a full case file and its officials are satisfied with the content. He added that the case would be prioritised.

‘The UCI has no reason to assume that a full case file does not exist,’ McQuaid told Reuters.

‘Unless the USADA’s decision and case file give serious reasons to do otherwise, the UCI has no intention to appeal to CAS or not to recognise the USADA’s sanctions on Lance Armstrong.

‘The sooner we receive the full decision and case file the sooner we can provide its response.’
