UEFA has denied reports of a meeting with G14 as rumours persist that the elite clubs representative body is planning to breakaway from the rule of European football’s governing body.

With the G14 postponing their impending annual conference, media reports had speculated that the path was cleared for showdown talks between the organisation and UEFA on Friday.

However, UEFA issued a statement to end the reports which read:

‘Contrary to press articles circulating today, UEFA wishes to categorically deny that there is any planned meeting scheduled to take place tomorrow, Friday 9 November, in Nyon, between European football’s governing body and the grouping of clubs known as G14.

‘There is, however, a planned meeting next week on Monday 12 November, of the Professional Football Strategy Council, bringing together the four UEFA Executive Committee vice-presidents, and four representatives each from the European
Professional Football Leagues, the European Club Forum and players’ union FIFPro (Division Europe).’

UEFA has been at odds with G14 over what it sees as a domineering attitude from the biggest and richest clubs, while the 18 members of G14, who are still apparently plotting expansion, believe that they are unfairly treated in European competition.

In a bid to improve communication between the two bodies, UEFA recently created the Professional Football Strategy Council the first meeting of which, involving G14 clubs, is set for next week.

G14’s annual conference is set to be rescheduled for January.
