Uefa has renewed its match monitoring agreement with Sportradar for a further four years, which will see the company’s Security Services provide the governing body with betting movement information from over 30,000 matches across Europe per season.
The extended deal, which also includes additional consultancy, takes the partnership through until at least 2019.
Sportradar will monitor matches in the top two professional leagues and domestic cup competitions in each of Uefa’s 54 member associations.
Sportradar’s Managing Director Integrity and Strategy Andreas Krannich spoke to sportindustry.biz about the company’s Security Services and how they are the front line when it comes to preventing and detecting match-fixing across sports, across the world. Check out the full interview here.
Uefa general secretary Gianni Infantino said of the news: ‘For Uefa, the fight against match-fixing is a top priority because an attempt to fix a football match strikes right at the soul of our sport.’
Sportradar’s Fraud Prevention Service will also offer e-learning tutorials to Uefa members for the first time, with teams and players competing in Uefa’s men’s and women’s under-19 and under-17 tournaments set to benefit.
‘We are aware via the Uefa Betting Fraud Detection System that 0.7% of the 30,000+ matches monitored annually present some suspicion, but even one match is one too many.’
Sportradar’s chief executive Carsten Koerl added: ‘Uefa were one of our first partners and in the last eight years, they have constantly helped us refine our system and increase its effectiveness.’
‘Today’s renewal, in front of some of the most important decision-makers in sport gathered here at Leaders, is a real statement of intent from Uefa and we are proud that they continue to see us as a powerful deterrent to those who would manipulate football results.’
