The UEFA EURO 2016 logo was launched in Paris on Wednesday, with just under three years to go until the opening game in France, drawing together the Henri Delaunay Cup and the national colours of the host country around the theme ‘celebrating the art of football’.

The design was unveiled in Paris’ Pavillon Cambon Capucines, with two-time winners, France, set to host the tournament for the third time.

According to UEFA, the logo aims to bring together the creativity that defines French culture with the beauty of the game and give UEFA EURO 2016 its own personality.

Conceived by Brandia Central, the Portuguese agency behind the UEFA EURO 2012 insignia, the UEFA EURO 2016 logo is a representation of various art movements and football elements.

The red, white and blue of the French flag combine with flowing lines and shapes to produce a contemporary and bold style, lending the logo distinction and elegance.

The qualification draw will take place on 23rd February next year, with 53 national teams competing to be among the 24 finalists.

France had to build or refurbish most of the stadiums for the tournament but that was not a concern for UEFA, according to president Michel Platini.

Platini, who scored a record nine goals at the 1984 edition of the event, told reporters: ‘I think that all the stadiums will be ready. Lyon (stadium) is going to be built, Lens looks like it will be done, I don’t think there will be a problem.’

While the St Etienne, Marseille and Bordeaux venues, used for the 1998 World Cup, are being refurbished, work has barely begun in Lyon. The future Stadium of Lights, which will have a capacity of 60,000 and is the first venue to be 100 percent funded by private investment, is expected to be ready by late 2015.

Heavy work, scheduled to last 30 months, has not yet started because of a string of legal actions brought by activists.
