The UK government have confirmed that it will ban 3,000 football hooligans from travelling to South Africa for the World Cup in the summer.
Measures to stop known troublemakers will be passed in the House of Commons in the coming weeks, according to the Home Office.
The step will allow Home Secretary Alan Johnson to impose a ‘control period’ on approximately 3,000 hooligans who are currently subject to banning orders.
The hooligans are already banned from attending games in England and have to surrender their passports before England international football matches.
In order to apply the sanction for the month-long duration of the World Cup, Johnson has to lay a statutory instrument before Parliament.
