The UK School Games, the second running of which is scheduled to start in
Coventry today, has attracted record number of supplier partners with five
brands signed up.
The multi-sport event will see 1300 young people compete at five venues in
eight different sports.
Fast Track, the agency handling the commercial rights sales to the event,
were able to conclude deals with five official suppliers, namely Highland
Spring, Ricoh, Advantage West Midlands, NASUWT, and Speedo.
Fast Track has been appointed by the Youth Sport Trust to deliver event
management and media services for the UK School Games until 2011.
£2.3 million in National Lottery funding has been awarded to the Youth Sport
Trust through the Big Lottery Fund, to develop the UK School Games until 2011
and for the 2007 Games in Coventry.
Visa is the presenting sponsor of the 2007 Games which are also being
supported by Coventry City Council.
The young competitors will participate in athletics, swimming, judo,
volleyball, table tennis, fencing, badminton and gymnastics in competition at
top class venues across the West Midlands city over the next few days.
Designed to replicate a major adult multi-sport competition, the Games begin
with a spectacular opening ceremony at the Skydome Arena this evening and finish
with a closing ceremony at Warwick University on Sunday night.
The young competitors will stay in an athletes’ village and the event will be
broadcast on Channel 4 from 8am to 9am on Sunday 16th and 23rd September.
