Athletics governing body UKA has confirmed it is to undergo a major restructuring of its organisation although Ed Warner will remain as chairman until 2013 after receiving a unanimous vote to extend his contract.

UKA is expected to begin a major shake-up in the coming weeks as it is forced to operate on a reduced budget by elite funding body UK Sport over the next four-year period due principally to the team’s disappointing performance at the Beijing Olympics last summer.

Olympic and Paralympic head coaches Charles van Commenee and Peter Eriksson are expected to reveal recommendations to restructure the organisation by the middle of April.

UKA is currently in consultation with staff whose roles may be set to alter or disappear.

Warner will continue to lead the governing body after the UKA board voted in favour of him retaining his post.

Warner was appointed to the part-time non-executive role in January 2007 to lead the UKA board and develop the organisation’s ‘vision’.
