Northern Ireland’s Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure has given Ulster Rugby a grant of £14.7m to redevelop the club’s stadium.
The RaboDirect Pro12 side will use the funds to construct three new stands at Ravenhill to increase the capacity by 6,600 to 18,000. The club will also develop its training, medical, media and gym facilities. The redevelopment is due to begin on 26th November and is scheduled for completion during 2014.
Ulster Rugby chief executive Shane Logan said of the grant: ‘On behalf of Ulster Rugby I would like to thank the Minister and her Department for releasing this funding. This investment will create a modern, state-of-the-art stadium with the highest standard of facilities for both supporters and players. The new Ravenhill will enhance the position of Ulster Rugby in the world game and will greatly benefit the development of rugby in the Province.’
