Umbro has been announced as the new Official Technical Partner of Everton FC, in a five-year deal that sees the British sportswear brand return to Goodison Park for the fifth consecutive decade, having first worked with the Toffees in 1974.
Umbro will officially replace its former owner Nike, who have supplied the team’s kits for the past two season, as the club’s technical partner on 1st June, with the new strips expected to go on sale in July.
As part of the deal, the Iconix Brand Group-subsidiary will supply Everton with all playing and training equipment for their men’s, women’s and academy sides.
Boss Roberto Martinez, who oversaw Everton’s 2-1 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday – the most played fixture in English league football – took part in the official announcement of the agreement at Umbro’s UK headquarters on Tuesday, streamed live on the club’s website.
Robert Elstone, the club’s chief executive, said of the deal: ‘Umbro has an unrivalled football heritage and is committed to maintaining its reputation for design excellence and innovation. Of course, we’re starting from a good place. Based on many years of working together, Umbro enjoys a great affinity with Evertonians.’
‘Starting in 2014/15, supporters can expect bespoke kit designs and great-looking, technically advanced training wear. It was also really important that we could guarantee fans across all ages could show their colours with pride and, as Umbro’s flagship club, all Evertonians can look forward to enjoying quality product over the term of the deal.’
Paul Nugent, vice president of global marketing at Umbro, added: ‘Umbro celebrates its 90th birthday this year and, quite simply, no other brand shares our experience of making football kits. We appreciate the importance of kits to both players and fans. We are meticulous about creating both technical and stylish product for players to perform to their best in, and that fans are proud to wear.’
