Under Armour, the American sport brand which begins a five-year kit deal worth around £50m with Tottenham Hotspur this summer, has signed a new deal with the club’s defender, Michael Dawson.

Dawson, who signed for Spurs in 2005 after coming through the ranks at Nottingham Forest, helped the club qualify for the Uefa Champions League for the first time in 2010, returned from injury this week to help his side to a win over Everton that added fuel to talk of a genuine Barclays Premier League title challenge from the club.

Dawson will wear Under Armour’s UA Hydrastrike II FG football boots on the pitch. In addition to Dawson, Under Armour brand ambassadors in the Barclays Premier League include Fulham’s Bobby Zamora and Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

‘We’re committed to empowering athletes worldwide and Michael’s leadership, team first attitude and dedication to hard work makes him the ideal partner for the brand. We look forward to seeing Michael on the pitch in our innovative football boots,’ said Matt Mirchin, Under Armour’s senior vice president, global sports marketing.

Dawson added: ‘I am extremely excited to join the Under Armour family – they are an ambitious brand who are committed to helping athletes constantly improve. Under Armour apparel and footwear is developed with the athlete’s needs in mind and I am looking forward to being part of building that sporting legacy.’
