The collapse of a number of sponsorship deals has prompted new Formula 1 team USF1 to ask the FIA if it can miss the first 4 grand prix races.
The FIA recently confirmed that any team missing a race would be in breach of the Concorde Agreement and would be penalised.
The team, one of four new entrants for the 2010 season, has asked to miss the races in Bahrain, Australia, Malaysia and China -meaning its first race would be in Barcelona on 9th May.
Co-owner Ken Anderson said missing races would help get USF1 on the grid: ‘If we get a decision quickly, it triggers funding and we’re good to go.’
Other new entrant Campos is closer to lining up on the grid for the opening race in Bahrain after a buyout which resulted in Colin Kolles being named as team boss.
