Tickets are now on sale for the games featuring USA basketball men’s and women’s national teams versus Great Britain men and women to be played at the Manchester Arena, on 18th and 19th July – the National Basketball Association (NBA) and Manchester City Council announced.
The back-to-back games mark the first time USA national teams have played against Great Britain on British soil.
USA Basketball legend and member of the 1992 ‘Dream Team’, Clyde Drexler was joined by GB players Drew Sullivan and Lauren Thomas-Johnson and GB basketball legend and 1948 Olympian Lionel Price at a special press conference in Manchester for the announcement.
Councillor Michael Amesbury, executive member for Culture and Sport, said: ‘Manchester is proud to be welcoming the U.S. and Great Britain national teams in what are sure to be enthralling encounters when the men and women face off in July.’
‘The Manchester Arena will be the place to be as we once again host top level sports here in the city.’
Drexler added: ‘I am thrilled to be here in Manchester representing USA Basketball. Fans in the UK are in for a real treat when some of the world’s best basketball players take to the court.’
Tickets are available for purchase online at ticketmaster.co.uk.
The excitement tips off on 18th July when the Great Britain women’s team take on the US.
The following day, the USA men’s team featuring the likes of Kobe Bryant or Derrick Rose will play against the Great Britain men’s teams featuring Luol Deng or Joel Freeland.
The games are part of a three-year partnership with Manchester City Council that already saw the first-ever WNBA game in Europe when the Atlanta Dream played the Great Britain women’s team in March 2011.
