Valencia will host the America’s Cup for the second successive time after being
chosen as the venue for the 2009 competition.

Valencia was chosen as the 2009 venue by current champions Swiss Team Alinghi
who defeated Team New Zealand earlier this month in the final at the Spanish
port.

The decision means the prestigious race will be held in European waters for
only the third time.

Organising chief Michel Bonnefous said: ‘Some six million people visited us
and it was the most competitive America’s Cup in history. We wanted to continue
with those emotions and that is why I announce that Valencia will be the venue.”

British outfit Team Origin will enter the America’s Cup for the first time in
2009 under the stewardship of Sir Keith Mills, vice-chairman of the London 2012
organising committee.
