Performance technology company WHOOP has announced Liverpool FC defender Virgil van Dijk as its newest investor and a global brand ambassador.
van Dijk, who will be representing the Netherlands during the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, has already been using WHOOP technology to ‘monitor and take control of his sleep, recovery and training,’ and now commits to the business in an official capacity.
The wearable health and fitness coach designed to help members make lifestyle changes via personalised insights and actionable feedback on sleep, recovery, and strain.
In joining the company as an investor, van Dijk will provide direct feedback on product development to help shape how the WHOOP product continues developing.
The Netherlands captain and Liverpool FC centre-half joins WHOOP’s roster of members and ambassadors, which includes sports stars Rory McIlroy, Michael Phelps, Anthony Watson & Beth Mead.
van Dijk commented, “As a long-time WHOOP member, this partnership makes perfect sense for me; every percentage of improvement that you can make ultimately benefits you, and WHOOP is a tool that helps me take control of my health and be successful.
“Football seasons are always long, particularly in a World Cup year, so recovery will be even more crucial than ever. Working with WHOOP will be a huge asset in helping me ensure that I’m doing the right things to set me up to perform.”
Will Ahmed, WHOOP Founder & CEO, added, “The best athletes in the world use WHOOP to optimise their performance and Virgil is no exception.
“He’s been a long-time Whoop member, and we’re thrilled to work with him more directly as he joins our company as an investor. We’re looking forward to Virgil supporting the future direction of our product especially as we grow internationally.”
