Independent sports marketing agency SPORTCEL has appointed Paul Vaughan to its senior team, becoming a non-exec director and key member of the client delivery team.
Paul brings over 30 years of sports marketing experience having worked on the client side at Whitbread, the agency side at API and then Octagon.
Vaughan then moved to the federation side with Rugby Football Union where he was responsible for driving the revenues from £45m in 2001 to £130m in 2011.
He was part of the successful bid team that won the rights to host this year’s Rugby World Cup and set up the Organising body, England Rugby 2015, as chief executive before stepping down to be replaced by Debbie Jevans in 2012.
Joining the growing agency, who recently moved to riverside offices in West London, Paul will work closely with co-founders Aidan Day and Rob Owen in delivering consultancy and strategy services to the agencies client portfolio.
Commenting on the appointment, co-managing director, Aidan Day said: “Paul brings an enviable track record to SPORTCEL, having developed and implemented sports marketing strategies for an impressive range of blue chip brands including Stella Artois, Zurich, MasterCard, Lloyds, Hyundai and PlayStation.”
Paul Vaughan added: “I am looking forward to working with the SPORTCEL team, they have some great talent and have delivered some exceptional and award winning work for a range of clients. Their creativity and execution are second to none and I hope I can add value to what is already a terrific offering.”
