Liverpool FC have announced British carmaker Vauxhall as its new official automotive partner, replacing the club’s existing four-year deal with Chevrolet, originally due to run until 2016.
Chevrolet originally partnered with Liverpool in July 2012, just weeks after signing a major shirt deal with rivals Manchester United. However, the brand’s parent company General Motors – who also owns Vauxhall – has since decided to pull the Chevrolet brand out of Europe by the end of 2015.
The new partnership, signed through until the end of the 2015/16 season, will kick off with Liverpool’s game against league leaders Arsenal on 8th February at Anfield.
Liverpool’s new deal with Vauxhall will reportedly see club staff use Vauxhall cars such as the Astra, which is built 18 miles away from Liverpool’s home in Ellesmere Port on Merseyside.
The company already has a major presence in football in the UK as a major partner of the national teams and the sport’s national governing bodies of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Vauxhall chairman and managing director Duncan Aldred said of the deal: ‘Vauxhall Motors has enjoyed great success over the past three seasons with our Home Nations football sponsorships.’
‘This exciting new sponsorship will undoubtedly benefit from the experience we have gained in international football and we look forward to the prospect of a partnership with such an iconic club as Liverpool FC.’
Liverpool’s managing director Ian Ayre added: ‘We are delighted to welcome Vauxhall on board as a partner of Liverpool FC. They have highly credible football credentials and a reputation for engaging sponsorship activation.’
