Virgin Active has announced a new partnership with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) to become the Official Health Club of British Tennis, in a three year agreement.
Virgin Active is introducing a number of LTA tennis products, which will be available to all racquet members, including Mini Tennis, a fun programme for 3 -10 year olds and Cardio Tennis, an up-tempo group fitness class that takes place on a court.
As part of the new deal, Virgin Active is aiming to make tennis more accessible and is investing heavily into the sport, including over £1 million into 81 new courts.
Commenting on the partnership, Gary Stewart, head of racquet sports, Virgin Active Health Clubs said: ‘It’s an absolute privilege for Virgin Active to partner with the LTA. As a governing body, the LTA’s overall purpose mirrors that of Virgin Active – to continue to grow and sustain the sport, nurture young talent and increase participation while highlighting that tennis is a fun, affordable, family sport as well as a great way to get fit.’
Lawrence Robertson, commercial director, Lawn Tennis Association added: ‘We’re delighted to have this opportunity to partner with Virgin Active. We’re especially excited to work with a company with such a deep understanding of its customers and a recognition of how tennis can offer everyone a great experience and a fun way to get fit. I’m confident our partnership with Virgin Active will help more us get more people playing and enjoying our sport both in and out of their clubs.’
The agreement follows Virgin Active’s announcement of British tennis star Laura Robson and former British number one player Andrew Castle as tennis ambassadors for its inclusive tennis offering, across a portfolio of 21 Health and Racquet clubs.
Members will be encouraged to track their own progress using Tencap, a new online rating system, available exclusively to members of Virgin Active, which matches the user to other players of a similar level as well as monitoring performance.
Virgin Active launched its inclusive tennis programme on World Tennis Day, 4th March 2013.
