Visa will give the Player of the Match in this year’s UEFA Women’s Champions League final the opportunity to make a €50,000 (£45,000) donation to one of the projects run by the UEFA Foundation for Children.
The financial services brand will make the donation to the UEFA Foundation for Children as part of its Player of the Match Award and will give the final’s most impactful player the honour of deciding which one of the 245 projects supported by the charity receives the funding.
The Foundation uses football, sporting, and educational projects to empower children around the world and to give them a safe place to learn and play.
The UEFA Women’s Champions League final, meanwhile, will take place in San Sebastian in Spain on 30th August, when Wolfsburg will play defending champions Lyon.
“There has never been a more important time to stand alongside women footballers, and throughout this year we have continued to strengthen our ongoing commitment to support the women’s game at all levels,” explained Adrian Farina, Head of Marketing, Visa Europe.
“We are very proud of what we’ve already achieved through our partnership with UEFA women’s football and, thanks to the support of the UEFA Foundation, we look forward to continuing this by directly supporting those using football for good.”
Nadine Kessler, Chief of Women’s Football, UEFA, added: “This is a wonderful initiative by Visa to give the Player of the Match in Sunday’s final between VfL Wolfsburg and Olympique Lyonnais, the opportunity to make a potentially life-changing gesture.”
“Football has the power to initiate positive change, by giving girls confidence, resilience and important life skills. This is why I am so delighted that through the UEFA Foundation for Children, this final will have a lasting legacy in helping to improve the lives of youngsters.”
Visa and UEFA announced a seven-year partnership in 2018, which saw the brand become UEFA’s first sponsor dedicated to women’s football.
