City businessman Edmond Warner has been named as the new chairman of UK
Athletics, taking the role vacated by David Moorcroft who resigned last year.

The 43-year old Warner’s role differs slightly from Moorcroft in that he will
act as a part-time non-executive chairman equivalent to that of a public company
as opposed to his predecessor’s full-time post as chief executive.

UK Athletics is currently in the process of recruiting a new chief executive
to handle the day-to-day operations of the governing body, reporting directly in
to Warner.

The new chairman will take responsibility for the development of the
organisation’s vision as it moves towards the 2012 Olympics, play a key role in
its communication, and ensure that key stakeholders in the sport support UK
Athletics’ strategy and direction.

During a lengthy background in the City, Warner successfully sold the
financial trading company IFX Group in 2006, having been its chief executive for
three years. Previously he was CEO of Old Mutual Financial Services UK.

A competitive local runner, he has completed seven marathons over the last
five years and is an active member of the Fittleworth Flyers, a running club
based in West Sussex.

Lord Sebastian Coe, chairman of LOCOG, was consulted during the recruitment
process with UKA president, Lynn Davies and Peter Radcliffe, chairman of England
Athletics also involved in the decision making process.
