Wasps have secured new land for a home stadium in Kent, according to the club’s owner Christopher Holland.

The six-time Premiership Rugby champions have taken another significant step towards re-establishing their professional rugby status by securing a 10-year option on land in Swanley, Kent, as part of a larger regional development initiative.

Holland confirmed the land acquisition as Wasps continue to pursue a sustainable comeback after entering administration in 2022, amid debts totalling £95 million.

Wasps, who were excluded from last season’s Championship, have formally applied to rejoin England’s second-tier league for the 2025-26 season.

“Achieving this milestone with the support of key stakeholders is a promising development,” said Holland.

“This move brings us closer to establishing a new home and demonstrates our commitment to Wasps’ sustainable recovery.”

Historically, Wasps have been one of the most successful clubs in English rugby, clinching seven major trophies in a six-year period between 2002 and 2008.

Originally based in London, Wasps moved to Wycombe, Buckinghamshire in 2002, before relocating to Coventry in 2014.

The club’s operations were suspended in October 2022, before the team entered administration, leading to more than 167 players and staff being made redundant.

Although Sixways Stadium, the former home of Worcester Warriors, had been considered as an option, Holland reiterated in October 2023 that the club is determined to return to its roots in the Southeast of England.

Elsewhere, Premiership champions Northampton Saints have received initial planning approval for a development project near the club’s Franklin’s Gardens home, Ross Road.

West Northamptonshire council’s south planning committee has approved Northampton Saints’ bid for land near the stadium.

It has been reported that although Saints have no specific plans in place for the land, the club are exploring several commercial development opportunities.

According to council documents, the outlined permission includes plans for a building up to 12,594 square feet, with new access to the site provided via Ross Road.
