Wasps have moved their Heineken Cup rugby match against Leinster to Twickenham to attract bigger crowds in the wake of the rise of fly-half Danny Cipriani’s celebrity status.
The 8,800 fans at Adams Park for Wasps’ opening Heineken Cup victory against Castres last weekend showed that the club had the support to move the fixture to a bigger ground, according to chief executive Tony Copsey.
For Wasps’ penultimate Pool Two game against the Magners League champions Leinster on 17th January, Twickenham stadium’s lower bowl will be opened to hold a capacity of 30,000 fans.
It seems the team might be taking advantage of Cipriani’s new celebrity status – as he is currently dating model-actress Kelly Brook – which has drawn a larger fan base.
January’s match against Leinster could be vital in determining who qualifies for the top seed for the quarter-finals.
