Wasserman Media Group has expanded their European Football practice with the acquisition of Dutch agency Sport-Promotion.

Founded and owned by Rob Jansen, the agency represents former players including Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Kluivert and Marc Overmars, as well as current stars such as Dirk Kuyt, Leroy Fer, Daryl Janmaat, Marco van Ginkel and Daley Blind.

In addition to the UK and the Netherlands, the agency also has football management representatives in the US, France, Germany, Portugal and Spain.

The stars will join the likes of Ross Barkley, Steven Gerrard, Chris Smalling and Mesut Ozil in the Wasserman stable.

Paul Martin, EVP managing executive for global football at Wasserman, said of the new collaboration: ‘We are delighted to welcome Rob and his Sport Promotion team to Wasserman. As we have made clear in the past, the continued development of our European football practice is a priority for us and we firmly believe that this acquisition will enable us to go from strength to strength as we continue to grow our European presence.’

Casey Wasserman, chairman and CEO of Wasserman, added: ‘Rob and Sport-Promotion have grown an impressive business in the Netherlands and they represent a significant addition to our portfolio as we continue expansion in Europe. We welcome their team and roster and look forward to continued success together.’

Rob Jansen, founder and owner of Sport-Promotion, who is also President of the EFAA (The European Football Agents Associations), added: ‘In the past few months there has been a lot of time invested to discover whether Wasserman and Sport-Promotion would be compatible.’

‘The result was entirely positive and promising. We believe that the future of international sports management lies in the successful collaboration of specialized parties committed to one goal and that is to make the athlete profit from all available opportunities. Wasserman and Sport-Promotion will reinforce each other in that common target for the next years to come.’
