British number one female tennis player Heather Watson has signed a new apparel deal with New Balance.
The new partnership was debuted at the Australian Open, where the 22-year-old was knocked out in the first round by Bulgaria’s Tsvetana Pironkova after feeling light-headed and required treatment from the doctor.
The winner of last week’s Hobart International WTA Tour event formerly wore K-Swiss clothing during tournaments.
Watson said of the deal: “I am really excited about my new partnership with such a cool and innovative global brand as New Balance.
“It is a great honour for me to be welcomed into the New Balance sporting family and I am looking forward to playing my own part in the brand’s growing tennis ambitions.”
Bruce Schilling, general manager of New Balance Tennis, added: “She is recognised as one of Great Britain’s most promising and exciting young tennis players and her values align nicely with those of our brand.”
Watson joins Canadian tennis professional Milos Raonic in the New Balance stable, who signed with the sportswear brand in 2013.
