Weighted Ski Accessory Takes Pole Position

Swedish ski pole brand Pole Position has developed its latest product aimed specifically at slalom ski racers.

By adding a small, specially developed, weight to the end of the ski pole, the idea aims to build more power to the turns.

Owner Pelle Stenbäck, who launched the product at last year’s ISPO, commented: “The Iso-Kinetic works by adding weight inserts to the tip of the poles, so you will increase your turning power up to 50%, and the ski-plane will become more responsive through this new feel and experience.”

According to Pole Position, the new screw-on training baskets are made with the same aluminium used for space travel to help “intensify” ski training.

Al Morgan, kit & equipment expert at The Ski Club of Great Britain commented: “This looks like an interesting product and not one we’ve seen here at the Ski club before so it will be exciting to see how this is best used and how they develop the ISO kinetic weighted baskets for the recreational skier.”

By mixing the weights each individual can find their desired upper body balance to allow faster turns or more power.

The weights, which range from 10 grams for an aerodynamic skier through to 50 grams for more power, are changeable depending on your ski type.

Pole Position explained: “Over-rotation is the enemy of any racer. But when controlling the force it can be you next friend. Especially on the flats where the extra power of the weights increases the swing mass and the body substitute a variable torque to improve both timing and accuracy within the slalom gates.

“In other alpine or speed disciplines, racers will receive a much more controlled stability and can focus more on task ahead.”

The Ski Club of Great Britain is a not-for-profit snowsports club which offers benefits to more than 30,000 members who receive discounts on travel, kit and holidays, access to industry-leading snow reports, information, advice; and access to the in-resort Ski Club Leader service.
