The semi-finals and final of UEFA EURO 2020 will be played out in front of a raised capacity crowd at Wembley after the UK government allowed the limit to be increased to 75%.

That means a crowd of more than 60,000 will be allowed to attend the north London venue for all three games, which will take place in the capital in July.

UEFA says ‘strict’ entry requirements for fans attending the event will include proof of a negative COVID-19 test prior to the game, or proof of ‘full vaccination’ – which it defines as two doses received at least 14 days before the match in question.

While government restrictions on large gatherings remain in place until at least 19th July, extra capacity will be permitted at other events – including the finals of Wimbledon – under the Events Research Programme.

“It is great news that so many fans will be able to watch the final three matches of EURO 2020 at Wembley,” said Aleksander Čeferin, President, UEFA.

“The last 18 months have taught us – both on and off the pitch – how integral fans are to the fabric of the game.

“This tournament has been a beacon of hope to reassure people that we are returning to a more normal way of life and this is a further step along that road. I am grateful to the Prime Minister and the UK government for their hard work in finalising these arrangements with us, to make the tournament final stages a great success at Wembley.”

So far in the tournament, the capacity of Wembley has been set at 22,500 for England’s group games. Two last 16 games will take place in front of a raised capacity of up to 45,000, while the semi-finals – on 6th and 7th July – and the final – on 11th July – will see the ground up to 75% full.

Crowds of 60,000 at Wembley for the events would be the largest for a sporting event in the UK since the start of the pandemic.
