The first 70,000 tickets for this year’s NFL game at Wembley Stadium have sold out, including 20,000 that were bought within the first seven minutes of going on sale.
The game between the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be the third annual NFL match that will take place in London.
In October 2007, the American football governing body staged its first regular-season game outside North America when the Miami Dolphins hosted the New York Giants, who won that game and went on to be Super Bowl champions. Last year, the New Orleans Saints were 37-32 winners in their home game against the San Diego Chargers.
Now that the initial 70,000 tickets have been sold for this year’s game, which will take place on the 25th of October, a limited number of additional tickets are available at www.ticketmaster.co.uk until after Sunday’s Super Bowl. Once these tickets have sold out, no tickets for the general public will be available until fans of the competing teams have had their opportunity to purchase tickets.
Between the Patriots and the Buccaneers, they have won four of the last seven Super Bowls, with New England being led by Hall of Famer Tom Brady who in 2007 set an NFL record for the most touchdown passes in a single season.
