West Ham United has announced a new commercial partnership with adidas, which will see the sportswear giant produce the Hammers’ kit from next season.
The deal sees adidas replace Italian brand Macron to become the official technical supplier of the east London club from 1st June.
adidas will produce the club’s team kit, replica kit, training wear and other equipment until the end of the 2014/15 season and, although financial terms were not released, the club described the deal as ‘lucrative’.
The brand has a successful history with the club, having previously supplied West Ham’s kits in the 80s, including during the 1985/6 season when the club finished third in England’s top tier, their best-ever league finish.
In a statement on the club’s official website, West Ham United vice chairman Karren Brady said of adidas: ‘They are an ideal partner due to their proven technical experience, innovation in product design and renowned quality of sportswear.’
‘The agreement with a world-famous sports brand provider is another signifier of our club’s growing global standing. adidas is a brand that West Ham United have a proud association with and we are looking forward to creating many more glorious memories playing in the famous three stripes.’
adidas’ senior manager, commercial clubs, Steve Holland added: ‘To partner with West Ham United again, considering there has been such an iconic past relationship, meant that there was genuine excitement from both parties as we agreed the deal.’
‘adidas is confident the Hammers fans will truly appreciate the quality and design of the new kits and extended ranges and we wish the club every continued success on pitch for the coming seasons.’
Although effectively safe in 10th place, Wigan’s defeat to Swansea on Tuesday evening mathematically confirmed West Ham’s position in the Barclays Premier League next season.
Meanwhile, Badminton England has also announced a new partnership with adidas – ahead of the London Grand Prix later this year.
The event, which is to take place at the Copper Box on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in October, is the first major badminton partnership for adidas.
The partnership also sees adidas confirmed as the first partner of the new Smash Up programme that is set to be launched into secondary schools and local communities across the country in the summer as part of Badminton England’s drive to get the nation playing the sport.
