West Ham United’s owners will ask an Icelandic court this week for a moratorium to prevent banks from seizing its assets and forcing the sale of the Premier League club.

Judges at the hearing in Reykjavik will reconsider a three-month extension that blocked the Premier League team’s sale. If the decision is overturned, it could force the club to go on the market.

Hansa, West Ham’s holding company, is controlled by Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson, which was the majority shareholder of an Icelandic bank seized by government regulators.

Gudmundsson, whose fortune was estimated at $1.1 billion by Forbes last year, is in the midst of deciding whether to sell the club.

Various madia have speculated that there are between five and 10 groups looking to buy the team, though there haven’t been any confirmed offers.
