West Ham Shirt Sponsor Goes Bust

Premier League club West Ham has been dealt a body blow after its primary sponsor XL Leisure went into administration.

The holiday package firm signed a three-year shirt sponsorship deal with West Ham in February worth £2.5m annually.

Fuel prices and the economic downturn have been blamed for the company running into financial difficulty, despite being the third largest holiday package firm in the UK.

The XL Leisure Group, which operates XL airlines, flies to 50 destinations, mainly in the Mediterranean.

The news came after the Upton Park club appointed Italian Gianfranco Zola to succeed Alan Curbishley as their new manager.
